August 2006 Newsletter

Hi

Well, we have finally moved!!! The move was pretty hectic. We found Mary and Siya fast asleep on the swing chair outside while we were moving boxes. I couldn't resist taking the picture!

We are now living in Prestondale, which is just behind Umhlanga. The house is smaller than the one we were in, but we have managed to fit ourselves in and are all quite happy. It is a nice little house with a better garden for the little ones.

Funding is not doing too well at the moment, and we are all feeling the strain (my 2 children especially), so I would ask you to please commit this to prayer and to please keep Tazz and Justin in prayer as well.

Kidz News:

Simon was in hospital for a week undergoing some extensive kidney tests. (Very boring when you are confined to bed but not exactly sick!) The bad news is that they are unable to find a reason for the reduced kidney function, but the good news is that they do not feel it necessary to do anything invasive at the moment, and will just monitor his kidney functions for the next 2 years. Simon has seen the developmental occupational therapist this week, so we can now start working on developmental issues which need addressing. She does not think things are too bad, but I will get the formal assessment back tomorrow. (The pic below is a fancy dress day at school).

Siya broke his collarbone last week. He was playing softball outside with all the other kids and did this somersault into the air. . .He doesn't complain much though, and it does not stop him from being his daring self. He is such a remarkable boy!

Mary was admitted to hospital last week after a nasty bout of vomiting. She was discharged on Saturday. She is feeling better now, but she has a very sensitive tummy on the whole, so she is eating like a little fairy.

Jake is doing fine. He is going through that 3 year old - "let me test how far I can push the boundaries" phase - so he can be a little trying at times. The other night he locked himself in the bedroom. I didn't think he had the know how to work the lock, but alas - he did. Justin talked him through unlocking it and fortunately he managed to unlock the door quite quickly.

All in all, I think we have been through enough excitement and stress to last for a few months.

To all of the local people who completed the questionnaire form for Tarryn's science project - she says thank you SO much. She did very well, and her project was selected to be entered into the science exhibition at the KZN varsity. (all the schools compete).Tarryn took second place in the Social Sciences Category, so she was very thrilled. She continues to thrive at high school and is on the sports field all the time.

Justin is doing fine, and he and our local volunteer Stuart spend time each week beating each other up. Stuart has 2 sets of boxing gloves, so the 2 of them spa with each other. (I hope that is the right term?). They both keep going back for more! I guess it must be a guy thing!

Kylie is doing great. She is crawling all over and pulling herself up against the furniture. It won't take her long to walk now. And of course, baby puppy is also growing. She and Jake have this love-hate relationship. They terrorize each other all day long. Jake chases Tipsy, and then Tipsy chases Jake. They just can't resist each other.

Volunteers:

We have no volunteers at the moment, which is sad. If there are any young people out there looking for a volunteer opportunity - please send them our details. The little ones really do enjoy having them around, and they really benefit from the extra attention.

Our Needs:

Monthly funding to cover running costs, finances to build, Volunteers and much prayer.

Fundraising:

We will be holding an information evening at Grace Family Church on 4th September. Local people can look at the invitation here: View invitation. If you are too far to attend, please could I ask you to pray for this evening?

And from my heart:

I was having a down day a couple of weeks ago, so I said to God: "God, your word says in Jeremiah - "call unto me and I will answer thee. . ." - so God, I am calling now. Please tell me what I should do. Funding is not coming in and bills need to be met. . ."

I was on my way to the beach to do my devotions as I usually do. I stopped and paged through the Bible to get to the section I was reading, as I paged, I flicked through Hebrews, and the following verses "spoke" to me: Hebrews 10:35 - 39"So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For in just a very little while, "He who is coming will come and will not delay. But my righteous one will live by faith. And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him." But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved."

So, be encouraged! What great things are achieved without a measure of perseverance?

As always, thanks for your continued prayer and support.

Yours in God's service

Ruth
